Prime Minster Opens New UCC Head Office In Winnipeg
| Winnipeg, MB (25 August 2005) – The Rt. Hon. Paul Martin, Prime Minister of Canada, together with Hon. Raymond Chan, Minister of State for Multiculturalism, Rt. Hon. John Turner and Members of Parliament Hon. Walt Lastewka and Borys Wrzesnewskyj participated in an official opening of UCC’s new office in Winnipeg. Over 150 invited guests, including MP Joy Smith, representing the Ukrainian community as well as other leaders were present at the subsequent reception to hear the Prime Minister speak on the recently signed goodwill accord on the internment of Ukrainian Canadian and the importance of Canada’s relationship with Ukraine.
“We are very pleased that the Prime Minster of Canada participated in our opening and used this occasion to receive the election observer reports from Paul Grod, Head of the UCC election observer team and John Turner, of the Canada Corps delegation. We are very proud that the UCC and the Canadian government delegations together formed the largest contingent of any observer mission to Ukraine for the Presidential Elections in December 26, 2004.”, said UCC President Irene (Orysia) Sushko. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress has begun planning for a large election observation mission to Ukraine for the March 2005 Parliamentary elections. A detailed plan and call for observers will be released by the end of September 2005. |
