The Government of Canada Promotes Historical Recognition for
Ukrainian-Canadian Community’s Wartime Experiences

Toronto – On Friday 9 May 2008 in Toronto, The Honourable Jason Kenney, Secretary of State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity), will announce an important initiative relating to the First World War internment experience that predominantly affected the Ukrainian and other East European ethnic communities in Canada.

nternee descendants, together with the Internment negotiating team of Paul Grod (UCC President), Andrew Hladyshevsky, Q.C. (Taras Shevchenko Foundation), and Prof. Lubomyr Luciuk (Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Commission) will participate in the event.

Stanley Barracks (Exhibition Place)
Princess Boulevard, Toronto, Ontario

Time:

11 a.m.

This is the first step on the road to a Recognition, Restitution and Reconciliation accord between the Ukrainian Canadian Community and the Government of Canada.

Winnipeg

Treasury Board President Hon. Vic Toews will make an announcement regarding the signing at 3:00 p.m. local time at the offices of the Taras Shevchenko Foundation (202-952 Main Street, Winnipeg).
