| The Ukrainian Canadian Congress congratulates Mr. James Temerty for receiving the prestigious Order of Canada bestowed on Canada Day, July 1, 2008, by Her Excellency Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada.
“We are pleased that James Temerty as a long-time supported of the Congress and an active community leader has been awarded this distinction,” stated Paul Grod, President, Ukrainian Canadian Congress. “I am very honoured to know Jim in both a professional and volunteer capacity and to have worked with him on many projects that were of significance to the Ukrainian Canadian community as well as to Canada and Ukraine.” Starting out as an entrepreneur in the 1980’s, Mr. Temerty has managed the growth of a number of successful business, including Northland Power Corporation which has become a Canadian icon for producing power using clean energy technology. Mr. Temerty serves on a number of boards and foundations, including as Chairman of the Royal Ontario Museum Board of Governors, Governor of the Sunnybrook and Women’s College Health Sciences Centre and a member of the board of the Canadian Psychiatric Research Foundation. Internationally, Mr. Temerty is the founder of the Orange Circle and serves as Chairman of the Kyiv-Mohyla Business School in Ukraine. Within the Ukrainian Canadian community, James Temerty has a sterling reputation as an entrepreneur, a community leader, a visionary and as a generous donor to various community-based campaigns. During the Orange Revolution in December of 2004, Mr. Temerty spearhead a highly successful fundraising campaign which allowed the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and its partner the Canada Ukraine Foundation to send 500 volunteer election monitors to Ukraine to observe the crucial repeat Ukrainian Presidential elections. He recently donated $1 million to the Canadian Museum of Human Rights to assist this national institution in developing its exhibit on the Holodomor (Famine-Genocide) of 1932-33 in Ukraine. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress congratulates Mr. Temerty and wishes him many years of continued success and community service. |
