| The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) congratulates and welcomes Eugene Czolij as the newly elected President of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC). Over 200 delegates from 23 countries took part in the IX Congress held in Kyiv on August 20-22, together representing the interests of some 20 million Ukrainians living outside the borders of Ukraine.
“We are thrilled with Eugene Czolij’s election as the new [Ukrainian] World Congress President. Mr. Czolij demonstrated his capabilities to lead with experience, conviction and vision during his tenure as President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress,” stated Paul Grod, UCC National President. “UCC applauds the skillful leadership of Mr. Askold Lozynsky who has completed his ten year term as UWC President. Mr. Lozynsky’s tenacity and hard work moved the UWC into a new era of engaging Ukraine and involving the Ukrainian Diasporas in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as, Russia and the other Central Asian countries of the former Soviet Union. He has clearly demonstrated UWC’s relevance in coordinating and representing the interests of this large Ukrainian Diaspora.”
Eugene Czolij is a senior partner with Lavery, de Billy, one of Quebec’s largest law firms, practicing corporate and commercial litigation. He pleads before the Supreme Court of Canada, all court levels in Quebec, and arbitration and admin
istrative tribunals. Mr. Czolij has served in a number of leadership positions with a variety of youth, professional and national community organizations. Most recently he served as 1st Vice President of UWC.
Awards received by Mr. Czolij include the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, the Order of Merit of Ukraine, and the Shevchenko Medal from the Ukrainian Canadian Congress He is married to Anna and they have three children – Melanie, Stephane and Sophie.
