Kyiv, Ukraine – August 23, 2011-The fifth meeting of the World Forum of Ukrainians concluded in Kyiv, Ukraine having elected Mykhaylo Ratushny as its new President.
The Ukrainian World Coordinating Council (YBKP) Forum assembled 300 delegates – one hundred from Ukraine, one hundred from the Eastern Diaspora and one hundred from the Western Diaspora – including eight from Canada – for three days of meetings in Kyiv, Ukraine. The delegates were addressed by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostyantyn Hryshchenko, by Ukrainian World Congress President Evhen Czolij as well as by national delegations.
Working sessions included:
- Human Rights issues;
- Immigration and Labour Migration questions;
- Legal issues;
- Communication and Politics;
- Education;
- Youth; and
- Ukrainians in Russia
The new YBKP executive included:
Mykhaylo Ratushny, President (Ukraine)
Stephan Romaniw, Vice President (Australia/Western Diaspora)
Taras Dudko, Vice President (Russia/Eastern Diaspora)
Olha Kubych, Vice President (Ukraine)
The Presidium also included from Canada Mrs. Marika Szkambara and Mr. Myron Spolsky.
Resolutions adopted by the Forum touched on issues such as: Supporting democracy and human rights in Ukraine and support for the rule of law including in the case of Yulia Tymoshenko; supporting pension rights for Ukrainians abroad, the establishment of a Standing Committee of the Verkhovna Rada on Ukrainians abroad; efforts to guarantee of retention of social, community and minority equality rights for Ukrainians in their countries of residence; and a commitment to better share information through the internet.
