UCC Launches 2011 Holodomor Awareness Fundraising Campaign

  • завершення документування свідчень очевидців Голодомору і дальшу розробку інтернет-сторінки www.holodomorsurvivors.ca;

The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) announces the 2011 fundraising campaign in support of Holodomor awareness and education.

Plans are already underway for the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Holodomor in 2012-13 and we continue to build on the achievements of the Ukrainian community in raising awareness and gaining recognition of this genocide.

“The accomplishments to date are a direct result of the community’s generous financial support.  Our work, however, is far from complete,” stated UCC National Holodomor Awareness Committee Chair Iryna Mycak.  “We have many more Canadians to reach with the message that the Holodomor was genocide of the Ukrainian people and it must serve as a reminder to future generations in the prevention of similar crimes against humanity.”

Your contribution to the UCC Holodomor Awareness Fund will support the:

  • Completion of the documentation of Holodomor survivor testimonies and the further development of the websitewww.holodomorsurvivors.ca;
  • Development of teaching materials on the Holodomor and training for educators in our public, catholic and private schools throughout the country;

Ukrainian Canadian Community Completes 2 Days Of Information Meetings With Decision Makers

On Monday October 24th, the Ukrainian Canadian community held its inaugural Ukrainian Day on the Hill with a grand celebration of Ukrainian culture and heritage at the Government Conference Center on Parliament Hill. This event was coupled with two intense days of meetings between Ukrainian community leaders and political leaders, diplomats and government officials.

The purpose of these meetings was to inform decision makers about a number of important issues to the Ukrainian Canadian community including: the 120th anniversary of Ukrainian settlement in Canada; the situation in Ukraine and the erosion of human rights and democracy in that country; Canada-Ukraine Free trade negotiations; the proposed content for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights; and immigration levels from Ukraine and visa processing.
