MANITOBA SUPPORTS GOVERNMENT OF CANADA’S STRONG STAND
AGAINST VIOLENCE IN UKRAINE

Premier Greg Selinger today issued the following statement regarding renewed violence in Ukraine.

“We are extremely concerned at the violence taking place today on the streets of Kyiv and strongly support the Government of Canada’s call for all sides to show restraint and return to peaceful dialogue to resolve the political crisis.

“We also support the federal government’s move to closely monitor acts of violence and repression, and continue to be part of the international community efforts to support the people of Ukraine in exercising their democratic rights.

“Manitoba has a deep historical relationship with Ukraine, which has shaped our province and enriched our culture.  Manitobans want the institutions of democracy and human rights to be respected in Ukraine and around the world.”

Selinger also commended the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Manitoba Provincial Council for its work over recent weeks to bring together Manitobans to express strong concern over the situation unfolding in Ukraine.
