Chrystyna Bidiak is a member of the National Board of Directors for the Ukrainian Canadian Congress. In her professional life, she holds a senior management position as Human Resources and Branch Operations
Manager of Buduchnist Credit Union in Toronto.
Over many years Chrystyna has held various Executive positions in
Ukrainian organizations in Canada, as well as, internationally as Vice-President of the World Federation of Ukrainian Womens Organizations. Currently, she is actively involved in the community as President of
the National Executive of the League of Ukrainian Canadian Women. Chrystyna is married to Taras with two adult daughters Tatiana and Andriana. She has a keen interest in Ukrainian arts and literature. |

Daria Darewych, Ph.D. has been a member of the Board of the UCC since 2002 and has served as chair of the Ukrainian Studies Committee. Her expertize lies in higher education and Ukrainian culture. An art historian, scholar, author, and curator she is a specialist in Ukrainian Canadian art and Ukrainian art and architecure. She has taught Western European art courses since 1991 and more recently has been teaching Aspects of Ukrainian Culture at York University in Toronto.
Dr. Darewych has been President of the Shevchenko Scientific Society of Canada since 2000. She received her Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of London, U.K. She has delivered lectures on Ukrainian art at scholarly conferences in Canada, the USA, and Europe and is an art consultant for the Ukrainian Canadian Art Foundation in Toronto. As an active member of Plast, Ukrainian Youth Association of Canada, she served in numerous leadership positions including President of the National Executive (1978-1982). She is married and has three children and two grandchildren.

Myron Jurychuk is a member of National Board of Directors for the Ukrainian Canadian Congress. He is currently a carpenter at Great Lakes Scenic Studios which build shows for theatres, trade shows, and various other clientele. He is also a member of the Hamilton chapter of I.A.T.S.E. where he moonlights on occasion. In the summer of 2006, Myron attended the Banff Centre as a Stage Carpenter in their work study program.
Myron is actively involved in his community through the C.Y.M.K-Ukrainian Orthodox Youth as the National President. He is a graduate of Sheridan College in Theatre Arts Technical Production where he graduated with honors. In his spare time he enjoys playing music, surfing, snowboarding, traveling among many other things. |

Dr. Tony Harras is a former Vice President of SaskPower, an electrical engineer and consultant, has dedicated his life his profession, heritage languages, the Ukrainian-Canadian community plus environmental matters.
He is currently the President Chermosz Consulting, USRA of Canada, DHS Ukr. Orthodox Parish in Regina, and the Selo Gardens Personal Care Home. He is Chair of a number of cultural committees including the Adult Ukrainian Language Immersion Camp project and the UCC-SPC Nation Builder & Community Recognitions Selection Committee. Tony is a member of Government of Saskatchewan’s Advisory Committee on Saskatchewan Ukraine Relations and former member of Government of Saskatchewan’s Task Force on Multiculturalism
Over the years Tony has served on many professional, educational and environmental Boards in various capacities ranging from founding Chairman of the Board of Greenhouse Gas Consortium, Chair of Ukrainian Centennial Commission Steering Committee (Ukrainian settlement in Canada) to former member of UCC National’s UCDC. He is also the founding Chair and former President of the Saskatchewan Organization for Heritage Languages and Multilingual Association of Regina and co-founder of the Ukrainian language program in the Regina Public School system. In recognition of his efforts, Tony has been awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, 2002; SaskCulture Volunteer Award, (2003); City of Regina Community Volunteer Award (1992); Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal 2004 and Saskatchewan Centennial Medal – 2005 plus recipient of several educational and professional awards and scholarships.

Bohdan Onyschuk is Chair of the Canada Ukraine Foundation, and a member of the National Board of Directors of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress. He is also a senior partner of Gowling Lafleur Henderson, Canada’s second largest national law firm, and is recognized by the Expert Guide to the World’s Leading Real Estate Lawyers and other professional publications as one of the leading real estate and urban development lawyers in Canada.
Mr. Onyschuk is actively involved in the community through a number of leadership roles, including as Chairman of the Canadian Urban Institute, founding Chairman and current Vice President of the Canada Ukraine Chamber of Commerce, a Canadian organization whose membership includes most of the major Canadian companies doing business in Ukraine, founding Director of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, and Past Director of the Canadian Division of the International Council of Shopping Centres. Mr. Onyschuk and his firm have represented the Government of Ukraine in Canada on a number of trade and government matters over the last 17 years, including acting as counsel to the National Bank of Ukraine in negotiating the printing of Ukraine’s currency in Canada by the Canadian Bank Note Company. He also served on the Chamber of Independent Experts on Foreign Investment in Ukraine, a body established to advise the President of Ukraine on foreign investment matters.
He is a graduate of the University of Toronto with an Honours Degree in Political Science and Economics, and a Juris Doctor Degree in law. He is the recipient of a number of distinguished awards, including the Shevchenko medal, and the International Council of Shopping Centres Trustees Distinguished Service Award. He is married to Tania Onyschuk, and they have two grown children, Motria and Tamara, as well as four grandchildren. |

Renata Roman is a newly elected member of the National Board of Directorsof the Ukrainian Canadian Congress.
Presently she is on the Board of Directors of Children of Chornobyl Canadian Fund - CCCF, where she serves on the Medical Committee and supports the Dzherelo Children's Rehab Center in Lviv and is also the secretary of the Board. She is an executive member of UCC Toronto branch where she is on special events committee.
She is a Registered Physiotherapist in Ontario and has served as the team Physiotherapist for the Ukrainian Olympic Team at the 1998 Winter Olympics In Nagano Japan. She also actively supports the Ukrainian National Figure Skating Team as the team therapist.
Renata is the president of RMR Therapy and operates 2 physiotherapy and sports rehab clinics in Mississauga and consults to the health care and insurance industry in Ontario. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto.
With her husband, Evhen, she owns and operates a family winery Rosewood Estates in Beamsville Ontario. Special interests include gardening, youth leadership and travel. Renata is the proud mother of Krystina and William who attend McMaster University in Hamilton Ontario.

Michael Szepetyk is a graduate of Ryerson University .He is currently President of MWS & Associates Limited, a company which provides sales and marketing services to the office furniture industry. Prior to establishing MWS & Associates Limited, Michael held senior sales management positions with a number of national and international office furniture corporations. Michael is actively involved in the Ukrainian community and presently holds a number of leadership positions as follows: Board member of the National Executive of the League of Ukrainian Canadians, member of National Board of Directors for the Ukrainian Canadian Congress ,Executive Board Member of Buduchnist Credit Union, Board Member of the Council of Ukrainian Credit Unions of Canada, Chairman of the Audit Committee for The National Executive of the Ukrainian Youth Association, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ukrainian Echo Publishing Co., Board Member of BCU and Desna Foundations,Board member of Canada Ukraine Foundation.

Jars (Jaroslaw) Balan represents the Ukrainian Self-Reliance League of Canada on the National UCC board. Since the fall of 2006 he has chaired the Canada Ukraine Committee for the Congress, which facilitates and promotes relations between Canada and Ukraine.
Jars has worked as a freelance writer, editor, translator and independent scholar for more than three decades. In 1991 he spearheaded the creation of the Kalyna Country Ecomuseum on the territory of the historic Ukrainian bloc settlement in rural east central Alberta. In 2000 he became the Administrative Coordinator of the Ukrainian Canadian Program (now the Kule Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies) at the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies in Edmonton. He is the author of numerous articles on Ukrainian Canadian literature and theatre, as well as an illustrated history of Ukrainians in Canada. He has travelled extensively in Ukraine since 1968, and been active in the Ukrainian community from his childhood years. |

I was born February 25, 1939 at Myrnam, Alberta to parents of John and Motruna Kobylka. In the primary years I attended Fidelity School and completed my high school
at Derwent. and completed my secondary education at the U of A to graduate as an Engineering Technologist. My community activity began early; at 13 years of age I was elected to be president of three local parishes Ukrainian Catholic Youth Association. where we not only served in the Parish activities bur we caroled in the area and were also a very active drama group. In 1959, I got elected as vice president of the Eparchial Brotherhood and three years later I was elected as president of the Eparchial Brotherhood in Alberta. In 1962 I married Roseann Frebrowski of Mundare where we raised two children, Connie and Brian. and today we can boast of having three wonderful granddaughters.
Other Community involvement;
In 1976 I managed the first Casino in the province of Alberta assisted in all aspects of starting the Ukrainian Bilingual Program and was one of three individuals who founded the Edmonton Heritage Festival which today is classed as the biggest festival in Canada. I have chaired the Ukrainian Pavilion for 35 years. I am past president of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Edmonton Branch, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Alberta Branch, Ukrainian Canadian Benevolent Society and currently serve on the Board of St. Michael's Extended Care and oversee the operation of five Senior Facilities.
Recognition
I have been awarded the Shevchenko Medal, Knighted in the Order of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood, Recognized by the Province of Alberta as the "Volunteer of the Milleneum" awarded the "Queens Jubilee" medal and many other Awards.
I retired from employment with the U of A in 2003 after 35 years of service in the Department of Facilities Services where I oversaw the operation of five departments; all new construction as well as high hazard research. |
