UCC extends invitation to meet with Liberal Party Leader

Michael Ignatieff invited to meet with Ukrainian Canadian Congress

Winnipeg, February 19, 2009 - In a letter to the new Leader of the Official Opposition and Liberal Party of Canada, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) extended its congratulations to Mr. Ignatieff on his recent appointment.

"The Ukrainian Canadian Congress looks forward to a continued relationship with the Liberal Party under your leadership and to building upon our common achievements for the benefit all Canadians," wrote Paul Grod, UCC National President.

In addition, an invitation was extended for the Leader of the Liberal Party to meet with leaders of the Ukrainian community to discuss topics of importance to our community.

The key topics proposed for the discussion included:

  1. Multiculturalism and support of Canada's ethno-cultural communities;
  2. Citizenship and Immigration;
  3. Trade and International Cooperation; and
  4. Foreign Policy, in particular support for Ukraine's bid to join NATO and other Euro-Atlantic institutions.
