Dear Mr. Lacroix:
I am writing in opposition to the CBC’s decision to cancel the Ukrainian language service of Radio Canada International (RCI). I consider this to be ill-advised and a detriment to all Canadians, particularly over-one-million Canadians of Ukrainian decent.
Considering that this service enjoyed a substantial following inside and outside of Canada, and that the CBC receives a significant amount of government subsidization, I believe that this decision should be overturned in the interest of Canadian taxpayers. It is my understanding that the Ukrainian Section of RCI is the only foreign language department to be terminated. This seems unfair considering that such a large number of Ukrainian-Canadians live in Canada.
I am calling upon CBC RCI to overturn their decision to permanently shut down the Ukrainian Section of RCI after 57 years of service to Canada.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
James Bezan, M.P.
