33 Black Flags - A Symbolic Reminder of Holodomor

November 27, 2009 -Ontario, Canada - This year on the 76th anniversary of the famine genocide in Ukraine 1932-33, flag installations can be found in three Canadian cities to honour the memory of the victims who senselessly perished in the Holodomor.

Installations located in St. Catharines, Hamilton and Toronto, Ontario, display 33 black flags symbolizing the year the famine reached its peak.  Situated in visible city locations, the installations attract passersby who stop to learn more about this crime against humanity.  In Hamilton, an installation is also prominently displayed in one of the city's federal buildings.

National Holodomor Awareness Week continues through November 29.
