On June 26 and 27, 2010, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress held its annual general meeting and a subsequent board meeting in Winnipeg. 40 members of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Board of Directors, presidents of branches, committee chairs and representatives of member organizations participated in the two days of board business and policy deliberations. Branches, provincial councils and member organizations bacome better informed of common issues and challenges, as well as providing opportunities for the exchange of best practises.
A banquet marking the 70th anniversary of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress was held on Saturday evening where Joy Smith, MP presented the Ukrainian Canadian Congress with a certificate of recognition for 70 years of community service.
Later that evening, Lesia Szwaluk was honoured for her 20 years of service as president of UCC – Manitoba Provincial Council and the following dignitaries were also presented with Awards of Merit for their valuable contribution to the Ukrainian Canadian Community:
Inky Mark – for his work on the recognition of the Internment of Ukrainian Canadians during WWI.
James Bezan – for his work on the federal government’s recognition of the Ukrainian Holodomor as a genocide against the Ukrainian people.
Hon. Len Derkach – for his work on the recognition by the government of Manitoba of the Holodomor as a genocide against the Ukrainian people
Doug Martindale – for his work on the recognition by the government of Manitoba of the Holodomor as a genocide against the Ukrainian people
The Hon. Dr. Jon Gerrard – for his work on the recognition by the government of Manitoba of the Holodomor as a genocide against the Ukrainian people.
