The Affirmation of Witnesses
This document referenced below provides information about the causes andconsequences of Canada’s first national interment operations. It can be found on thewebsite of the Canadian First World War Internment Recognition Fund(www.internmentcanada.ca). Tabled with Parks Canada’s representatives on 7 February2011, in Banff National Park, it is anticipated that it will form the basis for the exhibitbeing developed at Cave & Basin, set to open in the summer of 2012. Please circulateinformation about this document to others. Your support is needed to ensure that thishistorical injustice is recognized for what it was, and that the voices of those who enduredinternment, confiscation of their wealth, forced labour, disfranchisement and many otherstate-sanctioned indignities, are not forgotten.

National Advertising Campaign – “What’s in your Trunk?”
“What’s in your Trunk?” is the theme of a national advertisement campaign launched onDecember 9th. The advertisement ran in the Quebec Chronicle on January 12th, the SaultStar on January 15th and in the Jasper Fitzhugh on January 10th along with an article onthe Jasper Internment camp. It continues to run in the 24 community newspapers whereinternment camps existed on the respective opening dates of those internment camps. Thecampaign concludes on October 13th with the Saskatoon Star Phoenix. The EndowmentCouncil is interested in locating artefacts from the First World War internment operationsof 1914 to 1920.
Endowment Council Positions
The Endowment Council is currently seeking three representatives from affectedcommunities for positions on the Council beginning July 2011. The work of theCFWWIRF is overseen by the Endowment Council which is comprised of sevenmembers and an internee descendant representative. To ensure appropriate representationon the Endowment Council, we encourage organizations that represent the affectedcommunities to nominate individuals who are knowledgeable about this period inCanada’s history. The submitted names will be considered as potential candidates forEndowment Council appointments. We invite all affected community groups orindividuals to submit names along with their resumes by April 1, 2011.
