FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ACTRESS JILL HENNESSY AT NEW YORK PREMIERE OF GENOCIDE REVEALED
New York: Sponsored by the Ukrainian Institute of America, the New York premiere of the multi-award winning feature documentary Genocide Revealed by Montreal producer/director Yurij Luhovy on the Kremlin-engineered genocide of the Ukrainian nation, took place before an overflow audience at the Ukrainian Institute of America on Friday, November 4th. Actress Jill Hennessy who did the female voice-over for the documentary made a special guest appearance at the evening’s premiere.
After welcoming the audience, the evening’s master of ceremonies and main organizer/promoter, Hryhorij Shwec, introduced both actress Jill Hennessy and filmmaker Yurij Luhovy. Mr. Shwec gave a brief outline of Jill Hennessy’s accomplished career both as an actress and as a singer. He then introduced the documentary’s director, Yurij Luhovy, highlighting his much-recognized work of 35 years in the film industry.
Following the screening, Marianna Zajac, president of the Ukrainian National Womens’ League of America (UNWLA), presented Jill Hennessy with two dozen red roses and a special UNWLA recognition award “For her generous gift of time and talent, for her dramatic and heartfelt voice-over in Genocide Revealed”. Ms. Zajac gave an outline of the UNWLA’s work since its 1925 founding, including bringing awareness to the 1932-33 famine-genocide in Soviet Ukraine to the general public. Stating she was honored to include Luhovy’s Genocide Revealed — the recent winner of twelve international awards — as a project deserving of special recognition and support, she presented the director with a UNWLA Certificate of Appreciation “ In recognition for producing and directing Genocide Revealed, an important historical documentary…”
Luhovy thanked the organizers of the highly successful event, especially acknowledging the ongoing support of Russ Chelak and work of Hryhorij Shwec.
The director expressed his gratitude to actress Jill Hennessy for agreeing to do the female voice-over for the documentary. He stated he chose her for her distinctive, clear, warm voice. It was in the Avatar Recording Studio in New York that Luhovy learned of Jill’s Ukrainian roots on her maternal grandmother’s side. Jill Hennessy received a thunderous round of applause when she rose to accept the special UNWLA Award.
Following the brief question and answer period, Hryhorij Shwec called upon Andrew Stuttaford, editor at the National Review and reviewer for the Wall Street Journal, to say a few words. Referring to the documentary as “an astonishing film” based on “extraordinary archival material”, Mr. Stuttaford remarked on the importance and quality of Genocide Revealed, and encouraged support for the educational version.
A wine and cheese reception sponsored by the Ukrainian Institute of America then followed, during which viewers approached actress Jill Hennessy and director Yurij Luhovy conveying the profound effect the film had on them and posing questions about the famine-genocide well into the evening.
