Winnipeg, Manitoba-March 13, 2013-The Ukrainian Canadian Congress is once again encouraging all Canadians to mark the week of the birth of Ukraine’s national poet, artist and bard Taras Shevchenko by participating in various activities taking place across the country to promote and support Ukrainian literature. The objective of this national campaign is to raise awareness among Canadians that Ukrainian literature is a vibrant, growing genre with much to offer to every segment of society. We are hoping to showcase some award-winning authors and books. We encourage families to take this opportunity to connect young Canadians with Ukrainian and Ukrainian Canadian literature. March 9th marked the birthday of Taras Shevchenko, who is widely regarded as one of the most important contributor to the development of Ukrainian literature. Canadians across the country are encouraged to support Ukrainian Literature Day by making use of the public library system and checking out books on Ukrainian and Ukrainian Canadian themes. |
