Premier’s Statement on the political unrest in Ukraine
January 26, 2014
Premier Kathleen Wynne made the following statement today on the escalating violence and ongoing political unrest in Ukraine:
“Over the past few weeks and months, I have closely observed the ongoing political unrest and escalating violence in Ukraine.
I want to express my condolences to the family and friends of those who have lost their lives as a result.
I am deeply concerned about the dangerous situation and the growing violence against journalists and peaceful protesters. The excessive use of force and curbing of democratic rights is simply unacceptable.
Ontario is a very diverse province which includes a strong and vibrant Ukrainian community. We have a responsibility to speak up when human rights are violated.
I continue to stand in solidarity with the members of the Ukrainian community and all Ontarians who seek a peaceful and democratic path for Ukraine.”
