Two prominent Ukrainian community leaders in Crimea who were seized by police on Sunday never existed, according to the secessionist peninsula’s newly appointed Minister for Information.

“There is no Ukrainian community in the Crimea, and so there are no missing community leaders,” said Dmitri Polonsky, with the flawless, deadpan logic of Orwell’s Thought Police in 1984.
