Minister Fast Discourages Business Executives from Travelling to Russia
May 14, 2014 – The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, made the following statement regarding business travel to Russia on the margins of International Trade Day 2014, organized by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce:
“Canada is determined to support Ukraine and will continue to work with our allies and like-minded countries to apply pressure that will further isolate Russia economically and politically, until the Putin regime clearly demonstrates its respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“We encourage Canadian senior business executives to refrain from attending high-profile events in Russia such as the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Innoprom and the World Petroleum Congress.”
This statement follows Minister Fast’s remarks during the annual Ministerial Council Meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris last week stating that Canada will not support Russia’s accession to the OECD.
