OTTAWA – One hundred years ago, thousands of Ukrainians and other Eastern Europeans were declared “enemy aliens” by Canada and imprisoned in 24 internment camps across Canada. Their only crime was where they had come from and not because of anything they had done. Tomorrow, a hundred years later, 100 plaques will be unveiled across the country in memory of all victims of Canada’s First National Internment Operations.
Please join us as plaques are unveiled in communities across Canada at 11 a.m. (local time) on Friday, 22 August 2014, from Nova Scotia to British Columbia at locales associated with the Ukrainian, German, Hungarian, Serbian, Croatian, Armenian and other communities.
