Protesters braved Monday’s deep freeze to condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraineoutside the Air Canada Centre where the Russian team battled Canada for the World Junior Hockey Championship title.
Despite temperatures hovering below -20C with wind chill, two dozen Ukrainian Canadians hoisted protest signs and shouted “Go Canada Go! Putin Hands Off Ukraine!” before the game started at 8 p.m.
“It is a rally to show support for Team Canada. We are very proud Canadians. We feel it is very important to make sure Team Canada feels our full support,” said Paul Grod, president of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, which only began organizing the rally on Monday morning.
