Statement by Paul Grod, President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress
February 3, 2015 – Ottawa. Ukrainian Canadian Congress President Paul Grod issued the following statement on the resignation of The Honourable John Baird, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs:
“On behalf of the Ukrainian Canadian community, I want to thank The Honourable John Baird for his 20 years of public service to Canada and for his strong leadership on the world stage. Canada, Ukraine and many countries have benefited from his commitment to promoting Canadian values and supporting human rights around the world.”
“In the last year in particular, as Foreign Minister, John Baird has been a leader in the Western world, in standing shoulder to shoulder with the people of Ukraine, including protesters on Independence Square (Maidan) in Kyiv who fought for European values and human dignity. He has passionately defended Ukraine’s territorial integrity and condemned Russian’s invasion and illegal annexation of Crimea and aggression in Eastern Ukraine.”
“On a personal note, I want to thank John for his cooperation and his friendship. It was my distinct pleasure to work with him and I wish him every success in his future endeavours.”
