EDMONTON – A small Edmonton shop has become a shipping depot for tonnes of supplies donated for Ukrainian soldiers and refugees affected by fighting with Russian-backed rebels.
Luba Tsisar, owner of the Ukrainian Orbit Store, said local residents have been raising money to buy clothes, medical equipment and other items since fall.
They’ve also received donations of second-hand clothes.
But sending all this material overseas is expensive.
When volunteers contacted Tsisar, whose company includes a travel agency, she decided to cover the cost herself.
“For a small business, it’s not easy, but we’re still doing it,” she said Wednesday, estimating she has spent thousands of dollars on the project.
“We’re doing it from our heart.”
