April 5, 2017. OTTAWA. Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) National President Paul Grod met with the Prime Minister of Canada, the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau in Canada’s Parliament today.
Prime Minister Trudeau and Grod discussed the recent extension of Operation UNIFIER, Canada’s military training mission in Ukraine; this week’s signing of the Canada-Ukraine Defence Cooperation Arrangement; continuing Canadian support to Ukraine’s democratic and economic development, and Canada’s leadership role in advocating for Ukraine in the G7 and NATO.
“I thanked Prime Minister Trudeau for the Government of Canada’s strong stand in support of Ukraine and Canada’s commitment to ensuring peace and security in eastern Europe,” stated Grod. “As Ukraine defends itself against Russia’s aggression, the extension of UNIFIER and the signing of the Defence Cooperation Arrangement are important concrete steps in enhancing Ukraine’s defence and security capacity.”
Grod presented Prime Minister Trudeau with three traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs – Pysanky, crafted by Ukrainian Canadian artists –ahead of the Easter Holidays, as well as pysanka colouring sheets for the Prime Minister’s children. A part of Ukrainian culture since ancient times, Pysanky symbolize rebirth and renewal.
