A UCC delegation led by National President Paul Grod met with Ukraine’s Defence Minister Stepan Poltorak in Ottawa yesterday.
The UCC briefed Minister Poltorak about the community’s projects in support of Ukraine’s armed forces and military veterans. Minister Poltorak thanked the Ukrainian community in Canada for its ongoing assistance to the Ukrainian army.
Grod and Minister Poltorak discussed future opportunities for cooperation, in particular the most effective ways the UCC can support the ongoing reform efforts of Ukraine’s military.
“While defending Ukraine against Russia’s military aggression, the Ukrainian military and Ministry of Defence is undertaking a comprehensive reform effort that aims to achieve interoperability with NATO defence structures,” stated Grod. “The results of these efforts have so far been impressive, but there is more to do. We look forward to working with the Ministry of Defence on the implementation of the reform program.”
Joining Grod were Victor Hetmanczuk, President of the Canada-Ukraine Foundation; Ihor Michalchyshyn, UCC CEO, and Orest Zakydalsky, UCC Senior Policy Advisor.
