1. Russian Invasion of Ukraine
Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense reported at 12:30 PM Kyiv time that in the last 24 hours, no Ukrainian soldiers were killed and one Ukrainian soldier was wounded in action. In the last 24 hours, Russian-terrorist forces opened fire on Ukrainian positions on the Luhansk and Donetsk sectors of the front 8 times in total, including at least 3 times with heavy weapons. Returning fire, Ukrainian forces killed 1 and wounded 2 enemy combatants in the last 24 hours.
2. German Chancellor, French President demand that Russia immediately release Ukrainian sailors
Reuters reported, “German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron demanded on Friday that Russia release Ukrainian sailors who were seized along with their ships last month. […]
‘We demand safe, free and unimpeded transit for all ships through the Kerch Strait and the immediate and unconditional release of all illegally detained Ukrainian seafarers,’ Merkel and Macron said in a joint statement.”
3. Ukraine’s President on granting of Tomos of Autocephaly: We are on the eve of the birth of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Church

Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko addressed believers who convened for a divine service at the Holy Assumption Temple in Myrne, Odesa, the Presidential Administration reported. Poroshenko stated, “We will remember these days forever. We are about to get the Tomos. We stand on the threshold of great joy. We stand on the threshold of not only Christmas holidays, but also the birth of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Church.”
The President recalled that on December 15, the Unity Council had approved the decision to establish the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and elected its Primate. Petro Poroshenko stressed that Ukraine had waited and prayed for that for a thousand years. […]
The President especially emphasized that the new Ukrainian church comes with love to everyone, and the one who made the decision to stay in the church, which maintains communication and leadership of Russia, it is their choice. ‘No one forbids you to go to the church and start the divine service praying for Russia, if this is your choice,’ he said.
The President noted that today’s prayer was held on the eve of the great Christian holiday – Christmas ‘This year’s holiday will be very special and the evening of January 6, 2019 will forever enter the history of our state. Just as it happened on December,’ the Head of State emphasized.”
4. Ukraine receives 349 million Euro loan under World Bank Guarantee
Ukraine’s Ministry of Finance reported, “Today, the state budget of Ukraine received funds from a EUR 349.3 million Deutsche bank loan under the Policy Based Guarantee from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).
Deutsche Bank provided EUR 349.3 mln loan to Ukraine in the form of two tranches: tranche A in the amount of EUR 53.2 mln with a 4 years maturity and tranche B that totals EUR 296.1 mln with 10 years maturity, 4.5 years of the grace period.
Under this loan the part of the World bank’s Policy Based Guarantee in the amount of euro equivalent of USD 375 mln out of total amount of USD 750 mln was used. Ukraine plans to get the next loan under the World Bank’s Policy Based Guarantee in Q1 of 2019.”
