August 24, 2019. OTTAWA, ON. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) extends warm greetings to everyone celebrating Ukraine’s Independence Day! Today, communities all across Canada join with Ukrainians around the world in celebration of Independence Day.
On August 24, 1991, exercising the inviolable right of the Ukrainian people to self-determination, the Act of the Declaration of the Independence of Ukraine was adopted. Ukraine was declared an independent, inviolable, democratic State.
The declaration of independence was the culmination of the centuries-long struggle of the Ukrainian people to live in freedom. Today, the freedom of Ukraine is again under threat from foreign aggression. Once again, Russia seeks to subjugate the Ukrainian people to Moscow’s tyranny. Once again, the Ukrainian people must take up arms to defend their homeland.
The Ukrainian people are defending their freedom with determination, courage and honour. The valiant soldiers of Ukraine’s Armed Forces who serve their country on Ukraine’s front lines defend not only Ukraine’s independence – they defend the principles and ideals by which the civilized world lives. Today, the Blue and Yellow Standard under which they fight is the Standard of Freedom.
As we mark the 28th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, we honour the memory of all those who have fallen in Ukraine’s struggle of liberation from foreign subjugation. We pray that God protect Ukraine’s sons and daughters who defend Ukraine’s freedom against a ruthless enemy. And we pray that peace soon returns to Ukraine.

День Незалежності України
24 серпня, 2019. Оттава. Конґрес Українців Канади щиро вітає усіх із Днем Незалежності України! Сьогодні, українські громади усієї Канади та світу відзначають цей день.
24 серпня 1991 року, утверджуючи невід’ємне право народу України на самовизначення, було прийнято Акт Проголошення Незалежності України. Україну було проголошено незалежною, неподільною та демократичною Державою.
Акт Проголошення Незалежності України став кульмінацією столітньої боротьби українського народу за право жити вільно. Сьогодні, на свободу України знову посягають. Росія провадить загарбницьку війну, намагаючись уже вкотре запрягти Україну у ярмо московської тиранії. І наш народ знову змушений брати до рук зброю і захищати свою державу.
Український народ самовіддано та гідно захищає власну свободу. Хоробрі солдати Збройних Сил України на передовій відстоюють не лише незалежність України, а й принципи та ідеали вільного світу. А синій та жовтий кольори українського стягу знаменують кольори свободи.
Відзначаючи 28-річницю Незалежності України, ми вшановуємо пам’ять полеглих у боротьбі за свободу українського народу. Ми просимо Бога оберігати синів та дочок України, які мужньо захищають цю свободу від нещадних зазіхань ворога. І ми молимось щоб мир якнайшвидше повернувся в Україну.
