September 24, 2020. OTTAWA. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) applauds the historic gift of $250 million from the Temerty Foundation to the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine. This is the single largest gift ever made in Canada and among the largest gifts made internationally to a faculty of medicine.
“On behalf of the UCC and the Ukrainian Canadian community, I warmly congratulate and thank the Temerty family for their tremendous generosity and for making a profound impact on medical innovation and the health of all Canadians and indeed, people around the world,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC. “James, Louise, Leah, Mike and the Temerty family are exemplary leaders and world-renowned philanthropists. Their generosity and support of many worthy causes has made the world an immeasurably better place, and we are proud to be able to call them members of our Ukrainian Canadian community.”

The Temerty Foundation has generously supported the work of the UCC and many Ukrainian Canadian organizations for many years. Mr. Temerty serves as Chair of the UCC’s Advisory Council, and in 2010 was awarded the Taras Shevchenko Medal, the highest form of recognition granted by the UCC, for his lifelong support and leadership within the Ukrainian Canadian community.
