Конґрес Українців Канада висловлює співчуття з приводу смерті Др-а Борислава Николи Білаша
1 березня, 2021 р. ВІННІПЕҐ, МБ. Конґрес Українців Канади (Конґрес) висловлює глибокі співчуття з приводу смерті св.п. Д-ра Борислава Николи Білаша. Д-р. Білаш упокоївся 25 лютого, у віці 91 року.
Відданість Д-ра Білаша – шанованого громадського провідника та відомого педагога – українсько-канадській громаді, освіті та вихованню нашої молоді стала прикладом для нас усіх.
“Від імені Конґресу Українців Канади, висловлюю глибокі співчуття родині св. п. Д-ра Білаша та його численним друзям та колегам у Канаді та в усьому світі,” – заявила Олександра Хичій, Президент Конґресу. “Так само як і його попередники, що розбудовували українські інституції в Канаді, Д-р. Білаш став справжнім новатором в галузях освіти та педагогії. Він присвятив своє життя розвитку нашої мови, культури, та історії, а його спадок залишатиметься зразком самовідданого служіння громаді. Його нам дуже не вистачатиме. Вічная Пам’ять.”
За більш ніж шістдесят років громадської діяльності, Д-р. Білаш був Президентом Крaйового Центру Українських Шкільних Рад Канади, співзасновником та першим Президентом Світової Координаційної Виховно-Освітньої Ради. Він відіграв провідну роль в розробці презентації українсько-канадської громади в рамках огляду політики двомовності та двокультурності – що передувала політиці багатокультурності Канади.
У своїй професійній діяльності, Д-р. Білаш зробив вагомий внесок в українську освіту в Канаді та світі. Впродовж більш ніж 25-ти років як член, а згодом як голова Українського Програмного Комітету при Міністерстві Освіти Манітоби, він був автором численних освітніх програм, матеріалів з вивчення української мови та педагогічних праць, які мали важливий вплив на розвиток української освіти та шкільництва.
Д-р. Білаш був членом Дорадчої Ради Міністра освіти Манітоби та викладав на факультеті освіти Манітобського університету, де він вів курси з питань методології викладання української мови та розробки українських навчальних програм. Він був співзасновником Канадської асоціації двомовних вчителів, першим президентом Канадської асоціації учителів української мови.
За його вагомі досягнення та внески в розвиток нашої громади, Д-ра Білаша нагороджено Шевченківською медаллю – найвищим визнанням Конґресу Українців Канади, та нагородою “Булава” Манітобської провінційної ради Конґресу. Д-р. Білаш – лауреат численних нарогод, в тому числі Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, Prix Manitoba Award.
Просимо Бога пам’ятати родину Д-ра Білаша – дружину пані Доротею Білаш, чотирьох дітей, вісім онуків та внучок, троє правнуків та брата Д-ра Івана Білаша з родиною, у цей важкий час. Просимо Бога дарувати покійному Д-ру Бориславу Николі Білашу вічне життя в Його Небесному Царстві.

UCC expresses condolences on passing of Dr. Borislaw Nicholas Bilash
March 1, 2021. WINNIPEG, MB. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) expresses sincere condolences on the loss of Dr. Borislaw Nicholas Bilash. Dr. Bilash passed away on February 25. He was 91 years old.
A respected community leader and renowned educator, Dr. Bilash’s commitment to the Ukrainian Canadian community and to the education of our youth serves as an example of dedication for us all.
“On behalf of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, I express my sincere condolences to Dr. Bilash’s family and many close friends and colleagues in Canada and around the world,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, President of the UCC. “In the spirit of those who came before him and built Ukrainian institutions in Canada, Dr. Bilash was a true pioneer in education and pedagogy. He dedicated his life to developing and fostering our language, culture and history, and he leaves an enduring legacy of selflessness and service. He will be greatly missed. May His Memory Be Eternal. Вічная Пам’ять.”
During more than six decades as a community leader, Dr. Bilash served as President of the National Centre of Ukrainian Education Councils of Canada and co-founder and first President of the World Coordinating Education Council at the World Congress of Free Ukrainians (now Ukrainian World Congress). He was instrumental in developing the Ukrainian Canadian community’s submission to the Bilingualism and Biculturalism Policy Review, which led to the establishment of Canada’s policy of Multiculturalism.
Through his professional work, Dr. Bilash made many lasting contributions to Ukrainian education in Canada and around the world. Serving for more than 25 years as a member and then Chair of the Ukrainian Curriculum Committee of the Manitoba Department of Education, he authored numerous educational programs, Ukrainian language teaching materials and pedagogical works that were vital in developing Ukrainian education in Canada.
Among his many professional accomplishments, Dr. Bilash served on the Advisory Board to the Manitoba Minister of Education and as a lecturer at the Faculty of Education of the University of Manitoba, where he taught courses on the Methodology of Teaching Ukrainian and Ukrainian Curriculum Development. He was the co-founder of the Canadian Association of School Language Teachers and the first president of the Canadian Association of Teachers of Ukrainian.
For his contributions and accomplishments during a lifetime of dedicated service to our community, Dr. Bilash was awarded the Taras Shevchenko Medal, the highest honour bestowed by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, and the Bulava Award by UCC Manitoba. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Prix Manitoba Award and many others.
We ask God to remember Dr. Bilash’s family – his wife Mrs. Dorothy Bilash, their four children, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and brother Dr. Ivan Bilash and family during this difficult time. We ask God to grant Dr. Borislaw Nicholas Bilash eternal life in His Heavenly Home.
