Donors Corner: A great-grandmother, who inspired a donor to join our community

Brent Cunningham, P. Eng. has been our monthly donor for over six years and has recently joined the Friends of UCC club by making a $500 gift in memory of his great-grandmother Madelene Budzey (nee Korol). She was the inspiration behind Brent’s reasoning to join the UCC community of donors and supporters. To this day, Brent still remembers his great-grandmother’s Ukrainian newspapers lying around the house.
Brent’s great-grandparents emigrated from Ukraine, Austro-Hungary, and settled in Winnipeg, then moved to Saskatoon and eventually to Orangeville, ON. Brent’s father is half Ukrainian and half Irish, and his mother is Croatian. However, Brent’s memories of his great-grandmother and her love of the Ukrainian and Ukrainian Canadian Community are very much with him. Being a member of the UCC certainly helps him to keep closer to our community and Ukraine.
Thank you, Brent, for honoring your great-grandparents, especially your great-grandmother, who had such a significant influence on your life and brought you to our community. Thank you also for your support and willingness to know your family heritage.
