August 12, 2021. OTTAWA, ON. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) welcomes the announcement by the Government of Canada of a $30 million call for proposals to support inclusive governance in Ukraine and $1.9 million to support Ukrainian women military veterans.
The announcement was made today by the Honourable Karina Gould, Minister of International Development, during a virtual visit to Ukraine.
“The UCC commends the Government of Canada on today’s announcement,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, UCC National President. “The resolute efforts of Ukraine’s vibrant civil society in ensuring the continuing consolidation of democratic institutions are inspiring. Canada continues to be a leader in supporting Ukrainian civil society’s efforts to build a state that is responsive to the needs of its people.”
A UCC delegation led by Chyczij, representing UCC provincial councils from across the country, accompanied Minister Gould on her virtual visit. The Minister and delegation heard from representatives of Ukraine’s civil society, including women’s rights organizations, on peace and security, governance programming, the impact of the pandemic.
