
The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) expresses deep condolences to the family of Eugene Melnyk, Ukrainian Canadian philanthropist and community leader, who passed away on March 28. He was 62 years old.
“The Ukrainian Canadian community mourns the death of Mr. Melnyk. Mr. Melnyk was a generous supporter of many causes in both Ukraine and Canada. He was particularly passionate about providing opportunities for Ukrainian children – including through the charity Help Us Help – which he supported for many years,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC.
“Mr. Melnyk’s compassion and leadership were an example to others, and he will be greatly missed. May His Memory Be Eternal. Вічная Пам’ять.”
A successful entrepreneur, Mr. Melnyk founded Biovail Corp, one of Canada’s largest pharmaceutical companies. He was the owner and chairman of the Ottawa Senators of the NHL. Through many years of philanthropy, Mr. Melnyk supported numerous worthy charitable causes.
