April 8, 2022. OTTAWA, ON. Today, a delegation from the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) met with the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, PC, MP, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Finance of Canada.
Deputy Prime Minister Freeland and the UCC delegation discussed support for Ukraine that was announced in Canada’s Federal Budget 2022. The support for Ukraine includes $500 million in 2022-23 to provide additional military support and up to $1 billion in new loans to the Ukrainian government through the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The UCC delegation was led by UCC National President Alexandra Chyczij along with UCC’s Vice Presidents, the President of the Canada Ukraine Foundation, and the Presidents of UCC Provincial Councils.
Alexandra Chyczij expressed the gratitude of the community for the timely and crucial support in Budget 2022 for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, who are courageously defending their country from Russia’s genocidal war, as well as defending the liberty of Europe, and the values that we as Canadians cherish.
“The UCC is grateful for the support to Ukraine announced in the Budget yesterday. We will continue to work with the Government of Canada and all political parties on providing further support for Ukraine,” stated Chyczij. “The systematic, barbaric crimes against humanity and war crimes Russia is committing leave no doubt that Russia seeks the annihilation of the Ukrainian people. Our community and the entire Free World stand in awe of the bravery and valour of the Ukrainian people. Canada and our allies need to accelerate the provision of weapons and materiel to Ukraine, to enable Ukraine to defeat Russia’s armies and drive the scourge of tyranny from Europe.”
