April 28, 2022. OTTAWA, ON. Today marks of the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the Wisla Operation (Akcja Wisla), the forcible deportation by the Soviet-backed Polish government of Ukrainians from their ancestral lands in what is today eastern Poland. Ukrainians living in the Lemko, Boyko, Nadsianna, Kholm and Pidliashia regions were deported to territories in the north and west of post-WWII Poland. Some 150,000 Ukrainians were forcibly deported.
The forced deportation of the ethnic Ukrainian population from the region of “Zakerzonnia” was followed by the expropriation of Ukrainian property by the Polish state and the intentional assimilation of the ethnic Ukrainian population. The development of the Ukrainian language, culture and faith were prohibited in Communist Poland. We remember and honour the victims of this dreadful period of history.
Today, as Russia wages a genocidal war against Ukraine, the cruel and barbaric crimes of the Communist Soviet Union and its proxy regimes are again being repeated by Russia. Russia, as the Soviet Union before it, is committing systematic crimes against humanity. Ukrainians are once again being violently, forcibly deported from their homes by the Russian occupiers. Parents are separated by the Russian occupiers from their children; civilians are targeted with Russian bombardment from the sky; mass rape and murder are used by Russia as weapons of war.
As we honour the innocent victims of Akcja Wisla, we call on Canada and the international community to provide Ukraine with all necessary weapons and materiel to defeat the invading Russian armies and drive them from Ukrainian lands. Russia – a terrorist, criminal state – must be isolated completely from the international community.

Вшанування 75-ої річниці Операції Вісла
28-го квітня, 2022 р. ОТТАВА. Сьогодні – 75-та річниця початку Операції “Вісла” (Akcja Wisla) – примусової депортації українців комуністичним режимом Польщі з історичних українських земель сьогоднішної східної Польщі. Етнічні українці Бойківщини, Лемківщини, Холмщини, Надсяння, та Підляшшя були депортовані на території північної та західної Польщі. Близько 150,000 українців було примусово депортовано.
Після примусової депортації етнічних українців Закерзоння, комуністичний режим Польщі провів експропріацію майна та власності українців та умисну асимiляцію етнічних українців. Розвиток української мови, культури та віри було заборонено в комуністичній Польщі. Сьогодні ми вшановуємо пам’ять жертв цієї жахливої сторінки історії.
Сьогодні, коли Росія веде геноцидну війну проти України, Росія знову повторює жорстокі та варварські злочини комуністичного Радянського Союзу та його поплічників. Росія, як й СРСР до неї, здійснює систематичні злочини проти людства. Російські окупанти знову жорстоко, примусово депортують українців. Батьки відокремлені від своїх дітей російськими окупантами; Росія бомбардує цивільне українське населення; масові зґвалтування та вбивства використовуються Росією як зброя війни.
Вшановуючи невинних жертв Операції Вісли, ми закликаємо Канаду та міжнародне співтовариство надати Україні всю необхідну зброю та матеріальні засоби, щоб перемогти Росію, та вигнати окупантів з українських земель. Росія – терористична, злочинна держава – має бути повністю ізольована від міжнародного співтовариства.
