June 9, 2022. KYIV, UKRAINE. From June 1-4, Alexandra Chyczij, UCC National President, and Ihor Michalchyshyn, CEO of the UCC, visited Ukraine as part of a delegation of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) to meet with Ukrainian government and religious leaders. The visit coincided with the 100th day of Russia’s genocidal war against Ukraine.
In their meetings, the members of the delegation expressed their gratitude to the Ukrainian people for their bravery and determination in defence of Ukraine in Russia’s genocidal war.
The delegation visited Bucha and Irpin where they honoured the victims of the atrocities committed by the Russian Armed Forces and expressed support for those who survived and struggle to persevere. Recently, the first Russian soldier on trial for war crimes in Ukraine was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.
Throughout the visit the delegation discussed ways that the global Ukrainian community can enhance support for Ukraine. Chyczij underlined that the UCC and the Ukrainian Canadian community are committed to supporting Ukraine and its people and to ensuring stronger Canadian support to help Ukraine defeat Russia.
Chyczij and Michalchyshyn also visited the Canadian Armed Forces mission in Warsaw, Poland, where they received a briefing on the mission’s work in support of Ukrainian displaced persons.
