October 12, 2022. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) welcomes the announcement of additional Canadian military assistance to Ukraine. The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of National Defence, announced over $47 million in additional military aid to Ukraine, and additional Canadian training for Ukrainian sappers.
“The additional training, weapons and military gear will assist Ukraine’s defence in the face of Russia’s genocidal war of aggression,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC. “As courageous Ukrainian forces liberate more territory from Russian occupation, Russia escalates the vicious terror-bombing of Ukrainian civilians. Canada and allies can accelerate Russia’s defeat by increasing military and economic assistance to Ukraine and by strengthening sanctions against Russia.”
On October 10 and 11, Minister Anand announced:
- The deployment of 40 CAF combat engineers to Poland to train Ukrainian sappers on demining, engineer reconnaissance and use of explosives for demolition;
- $15.2 million in 155mm artillery shells and charge bags compatible with M777 artillery guns;
- $15 million in winter clothing and equipment;
- $2 million in satellite communications services
