November 18, 2022. OTTAWA, ON. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) welcomes the announcement by the Government of Canada of the issuance of the Ukraine Sovereignty Bond. The five-year, $500 million bond, denominated in Canadian dollars, will be issued in late November 2022.
“The Ukraine Sovereignty Bond gives everyone the opportunity to invest in Ukraine’s freedom and a democratic, peaceful future for all of Europe,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC. “We are grateful to Canada for this ground-breaking announcement. We call on all states who value liberty and democracy to follow Canada’s visionary example.”
The proceeds of the Ukraine Sovereignty Bond will support the Government of Ukraine to continue to operate in the face of Russia’s illegal invasion, including by providing essential services to Ukrainians, such as pensions, the purchasing of fuel before winter, and restoring energy infrastructure.

Canada’s intention to issue this bond was first announced by the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Canada’s Prime Minister, at the historic XXVII Triennial Congress of Ukrainian Canadians, on October 28.
