January 8, 2023. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) joins all Canadians in mourning and commemoration on the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Air Disasters.
Three years ago, on January 8, 2020, the Iranian regime shot down Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752, murdering 176 innocent people – including 55 Canadian citizens and 30 permanent residents of Canada – who were on board. May the Memory of the Victims Be Eternal. Вічная Пам’ять.
We join the Association of Families of Flight PS752 Victims in calling for justice for the victims of Flight PS752 and to hold the Iranian regime accountable for this crime.
Today, the Iranian regime is supporting Russia’s genocidal war of aggression against Ukraine. The Iranian regime provides military drones and materiel to Russia, which Russia uses to attack Ukrainian civilians.
The Iranian and Russian regimes – an alliance born in evil, violence and subjugation – shoot down civilian airliners, take hostages, and display abject contempt for human rights and human life.
The UCC calls on the Government of Canada to designate Russia a state supporter of terrorism – as the Islamic Republic of Iran has been designated.
The UCC expresses its solidarity with the Iranian people – who today courageously protest against the repressive, authoritarian regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
