The Ukrainian Congress (UCC) expresses its deep condolences to the family and many friends of Mrs. Maria Szkambara, who passed away on February 3. May Her Memory Be Eternal. Вічная Пам’ять.
“We are very saddened to learn of the passing of Mrs. Szkambara, who many of us knew well from her many decades of extraordinary dedication to our community, to Canada and to Ukraine,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC. “Everyone who knew pani Maria will remember her kindness, openness and generosity. She was a mentor for many of us and an example of commitment and service for us all. Вічная Пам’ять!”
We extend sincere condolences to the family of Maria Szkambara – her husband Stefan, her daughter Luba and her sister Lesia Semcesen.
Mrs. Szkambara dedicated a life of service to our Ukrainian Canadian community. A community leader and educator, among her many roles, Mrs. Szkambara was President of UCC Toronto Branch from 1993 to 2002, and former head of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations (WFUWO) from 2007-2012, and World Council of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations.
Among the many awards she received for her tireless work was the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Award, Shevchenko Foundation Kobzar Fellowship the Ukrainian World Congress St. Volodymyr Medal and the Order of Princess Olha from the President of Ukraine.
