On February 20, Ukraine and Ukrainians around the world mark the Day of Commemoration of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred (Небесна Сотня).
In the winter of 2013-14, in the Revolution of Dignity the Ukrainian people rose up against authoritarianism and despotism, defending their inalienable rights. In response, the regime opened fire on its own people.
On February 18-20, 2014, over 100 brave Ukrainian patriots were murdered on the Maidan (Independence Square) in the center of Kyiv. They are remembered today as the Heavenly Hundred – Небесна Сотня. They gave their lives for Ukraine’s freedom and stand as an eternal example of courage. We honour their memory. Вічная Пам’ять.
From the fires of the Maidan in 2014, to the battlefields in the east, the waters of the Black Sea and the skies over Ukraine today – the heroic defence of Ukraine’s liberty continues.
Russia wages a genocidal war against Ukraine. Every day, brave men and women in Ukraine’s Armed Forces give their lives for Ukraine’s freedom. They join the Heavenly Hundred – as Heroes who will be forever remembered by a grateful nation.
The Ukrainian people fight with unity and valour. With their resolve and their determination, the Ukrainian people inspire the world. We are certain that one day soon the Russian invader will be driven from Ukrainian lands and peace will return to Ukraine.
Слава Україні! Героям Слава!
