The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) welcomes the expulsion from Canada of Chinese diplomat Zhao Wei, who was involved in attempting to intimidate the Honourable Michael Chong, (MP- Halton Hills) and Mr. Chong’s family.
Just as China attempts to interfere in our democracy, so too does the Russian Federation. Under diplomatic cover, the Russian state engages in espionage, foreign interference and disinformation. Russia’s diplomats are here to undermine Canada’s support for Ukraine and destabilize our democracy.
While Canada’s EU and NATO allies have expelled hundreds of Russian diplomats from their countries since Russia launched its genocidal war against Ukraine in February 2022, not a single Russian diplomat has been expelled from Canada since 2018.
The Russian Federation, an adversary to Canada that is waging a genocidal war of aggression against Ukraine, has over 80 diplomats accredited in Canada.
The UCC calls on the Government of Canada to expel Russian diplomats from our country. Representatives of a genocidal regime have no place in Canada.
