The Ukrainian Canadian Congress extends its warmest wishes to all Canadians on Multiculturalism Day!
Multiculturalism is what creates the rich and vibrant mosaic of Canadian culture. It unites us as Canadians while celebrating the diversity of our backgrounds.
At a time when Ukrainians around the world are suffering the effects of a terrible and brutal war unleashed against them by russia, we reflect on how welcoming Canada has been to people of all cultures at the time of their greatest need.
The Ukrainian-Canadian community in Canada was instrumental in the establishment of the policy of Multiculturalism, which was announced by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau in October 1971 at the Triennial Congress of Ukrainian Canadians in Winnipeg. Senator Paul Yuzyk (1913-1986), a proud Ukrainian Canadian, is widely acknowledged as the “Father of Multiculturalism.”
Multiculturalism Day serves as an opportunity for us to acquaint ourselves with all the cultures that have come to call Canada home. For Ukrainians Canadians, this year Multiculturalism Day is also a chance to thank everyone in Canada for the highly valued and appreciated ongoing support, assistance and acceptance of refugees from Ukraine, as well as Canada’s commitment to Ukrainian victory.
On behalf of all Ukrainians, we would like to say: Дякую, Канада! Thank you, Canada! Merci, Canada!
Happy Multiculturalism Day! З днем багатокультурності! Joyeuse Journée du Multiculturalism!
