Happy Canada Day from the Ukrainian Canadian Congress!
This year, Canada celebrates the 156th anniversary of Confederation. As Ukrainian Canadians, we reflect on the joint histories of Canada and Ukraine, and how these two nations have grown and developed from each-other’s contributions.
Starting in 1891, Ukrainians immigrated to Canada in search of land, freedom, peace, opportunity and a better life. Today, Ukrainians come to Canada seeking refuge from Russia’s war – refuge from the genocide and terror with which Russia seeks to destroy Ukraine. The UCC is profoundly grateful to all Canadians for the hospitality and kindness with which they have welcomed Ukrainians in this time of need.
As the Ukrainian people courageously defend their freedom and independence against Russia’s war – Canada and the Canadian people are providing military, economic and humanitarian support that is greatly assisting Ukraine’s fight in defense of liberty.
The bonds of our two peoples are stronger than those of friendship. They are the bonds of family, forged through decades of commitment to the values of democracy, freedom and peace that we both hold dear.
We celebrate this year’s Canada Day with a sense of gratitude for all the help, trust and faith that Canada has provided to Ukraine and Ukrainians, and a sense of pride in all the great achievements of Ukrainians in Canada, who have helped to enrich our country.
Happy Canada Day! З днем Канади! Bonne fête du Canada !
