July 27, 2023. OTTAWA, ON. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) is shocked by the revolting act of hatred against Sainte-Sophie Ukrainian summer camp in Chertsey, Quebec.
The sign to the Sainte-Sophie camp was vandalized with the letter “Z” – the symbol of support for the Russian army and Russia’s genocide against Ukrainians. The criminals who vandalized the sign also wrote “Wagner” – the Russian terrorist organization responsible for systemic torture, mass rape and myriad other sordid crimes against humanity – on the Ukrainian camp’s sign.
“This is an appalling act of hate targeting Ukrainians. We call on law enforcement agencies to investigate this as a hate crime,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC. “Despite several appeals from the UCC, Canada’s federal government has thus far failed to respond to the rising tide of hate against Ukrainians in Canada – creating a culture of impunity for these disgraceful acts. Canada is also, inexplicably, one of few NATO allies not to expel a single Russian diplomat since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. We call on the Government of Canada to assist us in protecting the Ukrainian community in Canada.”
In March the UCC addressed the Government of Canada with a series of recommendations on addressing the rising tide of hate against Ukrainian Canadians.
Those recommendations are available here: UCC calls on Government of Canada to address rising tide of anti-Ukrainian hate
In June, the UCC launched the Community Safety Survey to gauge the frequency and severity of threats to the safety and well-being of Ukrainian Canadian communities and supporters of Ukraine across Canada. The results of the Survey will be made public in the coming days.

There are over 80 Russian so-called diplomats accredited in Canada. The Government of Canada refuses to expel any of them. Representatives of a criminal, terrorist regime have no place in Canada.
