August 9, 2023. OTTAWA, ON. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) expresses its deep condolences on the passing of Archpriest Roman Galadza, Pastor of St. Elias the Prophet Church in Brampton, ON. Father Roman passed away on August 1. He was 80 years old.
“Father Roman was much beloved in the community he served for many decades, and well-known throughout our Ukrainian Canadian community for his kindness, his compassion and his humanity,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC. “Father Roman was an exceptionally talented educator, teaching generations of our youth the importance of faith, spirituality and helping one another. All who knew him will remember him for his radiant smile, wisdom and humour. He will be greatly missed. May His Memory Be Eternal. Вічная Пам’ять!”
Ordained to the priesthood more than five decades ago, Father Roman and his wife Mrs. Irene Galadza moved to Brampton in 1976 to start St. Elias Parish, growing it into the large community it is today. Father Roman was a teacher and served as a chaplain in the Dufferin-Peel Catholic School Board for many years. Father Roman played a leadership role in the Brampton community’s efforts in supporting Ukraine and in welcoming displaced Ukrainians to Canada since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Father Roman is survived by his wife Mrs. Irene Galadza, their six children, among them Her Excellency, Larisa Galadza, Canada’s Ambassador to Ukraine, and ten grandchildren. We ask God to remember Father Galadza’s family and parishioners during this difficult time and to grant Father Roman Galadza eternal life in His Heavenly Home. Вічная Пам’ять.
