The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) is proud to announce that the Ukrainian Cultural Organization of Newfoundland and Labrador (Ukrainian NL) has joined the UCC and will serve as its branch in the province.
“We are very happy that Ukrainian NL is joining the UCC family. Ukrainian NL’s members bring with them a wealth of experience, passion, and commitment to representing and strengthening the Ukrainian Canadian community,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, UCC National President. “We look forward to working closely together – Вітаємо!!”
Ukrainian NL was welcomed to the UCC by unanimous vote of the UCC Board of Directors on May 25.

Ukrainian NL has been at the forefront of promoting Ukrainian culture and supporting Ukrainian causes since its inception. Ukrainian NL has organized Stand With Ukraine rallies, demonstrating unwavering support for Ukraine and its people.
Through collaborative efforts with the local government, Ukrainian NL supported many Ukrainians, displaced by Russia’s genocidal war, who arrived in the province in the past two years. The organization has also advocated for the proclamation of Annual Holodomor Remembrance Day in Newfoundland and Labrador, and holds an annual Independence Day event.

The organization’s commitment to the community extends to social initiatives. Ukrainian NL has facilitated the introduction of Ukrainian Catholic and Orthodox services, providing spiritual support to members of the Ukrainian diaspora. Additionally, through the ParticipAction grant, Ukrainian NL has funded a Ukrainian newcomer fitness instructor to offer seniors physical activity programs. The Association also includes the Dolya Ukrainian Dance Company, which has become a symbol of pride for the local Ukrainian community in the province.

Bruce Lilly, President of Ukrainian NL, emphasized the significance of attending the Triennial Congress of Ukrainian Canadians in Winnipeg in 2022, made possible through the UCC Outreach Fund. This experience proved instrumental as it allowed him to connect with other branches and key member organizations, aiding in initiating various activities in the province.
UCC greatly anticipates the collaboration between the newest UCC branch in Newfoundland and Labrador to promote cultural development, community engagement, and advocacy. You can learn more about our newest branch here
