July 11, 2024. OTTAWA, ON. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) welcomes Canada’s increased military assistance to Ukraine – a contribution of $500 million as part of the NATO Pledge of Long-Term Security Assistance for Ukraine and up to $389 million to enhance F-16 pilot training. Canada’s contribution was announced at the Washington NATO Summit.
“We are grateful to the Government of Canada for this important contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s defence. Canada’s military and security assistance is critical in ensuring Ukraine’s heroes have the means to fight Russia and defend the freedom of Europe,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC. “Three days ago, Russia barbarically bombed a children’s hospital and a maternity hospital. Russia is waging a genocidal war of aggression against Ukraine. Canada and NATO allies need to step up military assistance to help Ukraine defeat Russia.”
Today, NATO Leaders met with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Canada’s Prime Minister, announced that Canada would commit an additional $500 million in military assistance to Ukraine, as part of the NATO Pledge of Long-Term Security Assistance, and allocate up to $389 million “to enhance F-16 pilot training through the Ukraine Defense Contact Group Air Force Capability Coalition.”
Yesterday, NATO leaders announced the Pledge of Long-Term Security Assistance for Ukraine, in which they stated that they intend “to provide a minimum baseline funding of €40 billion within the next year, and to provide sustainable levels of security assistance for Ukraine to prevail.”
On July 8, Russia carried out a criminal, barbaric attack on Ukraine. Russia struck civilian targets in Kyiv, Kryvyi Rih, Dnipro and other cities with over 40 missiles and rockets. In Kyiv, Russia targeted Ohmadyt Children’s Hospital – Ukraine’s largest children’s medical center.
The UCC and Canada-Ukraine Foundation Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal launched a campaign to support Ohmadyt. Please click on the image below to find out how you can contribute.
