UCC statement on Russian missile attack on Kyiv, Kryviy Rih, Kherson
(Dec 20, 2024) Today Russia launched another brutal air assault against Ukrainian civilians in Kyiv, Kryvyi Rih, Kherson and other cities. Russia murdered several civilians and injured dozens. Rescue operations are underway. Among the targets Russia attacked was the Toronto-Kyiv business centre, a location well-known to many Canadians visiting Kyiv.
Russia launches these vicious air assaults in order to terrorize Ukrainian civilians. Ukraine’s western partners are failing to adequately supply Ukraine with air defense systems, munitions and airplanes to defend Ukraine’s skies, civilians and cities and towns from barbaric Russian air attacks. As Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy recently stated, “air defence systems should save lives, not gather dust in storage facilities.”
The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) calls on Canada and allies to immediately and substantially increase the provision of air defence systems, munitions and planes to Ukraine so that Ukraine can defend its skies from Russian air assaults. The UCC calls on Canada and allies to designate Russia a terrorist state.
