June 10, 2025. OTTAWA, ON. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) calls on the leaders of the G7 who are meeting in Kananaskis, Alberta on June 15-17 to substantially increase military support to Ukraine, increase sanctions on Russia and seize $300 billion in Russian assets.
Russia has significantly increased its barbaric terror-bombing of Ukrainian civilians. On the night of June 9, Russia fired almost 500 drones and 20 missiles at Ukrainian cities and towns.
Last night, Russia struck a maternity ward in Odesa. Russia targeted Kyiv with one of the largest attacks of the war. Russia also targeted Dnipro region, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and other Ukrainian cities and towns. In the last 24 hours alone, at least seven Ukrainian civilians have been killed and 34 injured in Russian attacks.
May the Memory of the Victims Be Eternal. Вічная Пам’ять.
“The leaders of the G7 have the means to force Russia to stop its genocidal war of aggression against Ukraine. Through its unwillingness to enter into a ceasefire, Russia has confirmed that it is not interested in ending the war which it started. We call upon the G7 to provide Ukraine with more weapons and air defence systems, to increase sanctions to put pressure on Russia’s economy, to seize Russian assets and use them for Ukraine’s defence,” stated Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC. “We are grateful to Prime Minister Carney for inviting President Zelenskyy to the G7 Summit. The Summit is taking place at a pivotal moment in history and provides an opportunity for Ukraine’s friends and allies to help Ukraine and Europe defeat unprovoked Russian aggression.”
The UCC calls on the leaders of the G7 (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, United States) to:
- Support Ukraine. Substantially increase weapons and ammunition deliveries to Ukraine and keep providing Ukraine with economic and financial support.
- Support Justice. Substantially increase sanctions on Russia, apply secondary sanctions to countries doing business with Russia’s shadow fleet and support an international tribunal that will hold Russia accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
- Make Russia Pay. Seize the $300 billion in Russian assets held in Western institutions and provide these funds to Ukraine for defence and reconstruction.
