August 25, 2025. OTTAWA, ON. Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC), visited Ukraine for Independence Day and the National Prayer Breakfast.
On Ukraine’s Independence Day, Chyczij greeted the Right Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, who undertook his first official visit to Ukraine as Prime Minister. Chyczij thanked Prime Minister Carney for Canada’s ongoing commitment to Ukraine.
“The bravery and resilience of the Ukrainian people inspires the world as Ukraine defends the freedom of Europe from Russia’s genocidal war of aggression. Ukraine needs and deserves our increased support – all the more so as the Trump administration delays sanctions on Russia,” stated Chyczij. “It was fundamentally important that Prime Minister Carney visit Ukraine at this critical time in a show of solidarity and stress Canada’s support Ukraine’s freedom. We are hopeful that the Prime Minister’s visit will lead to increased and decisive action in support of Ukraine.”

Chyczij attended the Ukrainian Independence Day Ceremony at which President Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Carney delivered inspiring and poignant remarks.
During his visit Prime Minister Carney announced the allocation of $2 billion in military assistance that was committed by Canada at the G7 Summit in June and $31 million in additional humanitarian assistance and investments.
Canada and Ukraine signed the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Agreement on Security Cooperation and a Letter of Intent was signed between the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence and Canada’s Department of National Defence to co-produce defense materials in both countries.
