Ihor Michalchyshyn, CEO and Executive Director of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) issued the following statement:
Last night, Russia murdered at least 18 civilians, including four children, and injured dozens more in one of Russia’s largest terror-bombing attacks on Kyiv since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Tоgether with the Ukrainian people, the UCC mourns the victims of this disgraceful attack. Вічная Пам’ять.
Russia also targeted European Union and British Council buildings in Kyiv. While President Trump delays promised sanctions on Russia and seeks to appease Russia’s tyrant, Russia mocks the West and escalates terror against innocent people.
Every hour of every day, Russia makes clear to the world that Russia does not want peace. Russia seeks war, destruction and death. Since President Trump was inaugurated, Russian drone and missile strikes on Ukrainian cities have doubled. That is the predictable result of Trump’s appeasement.
The UCC calls on Canada, the EU, the UK and allies to significantly increase sanctions pressure on Russia, including designating Russia a terrorist state. We call on Canada and allies to increase the delivery of air defences and weapons to Ukraine so that Ukraine can better defend its people and cities against Russian terror bombing.
